Description

Prerequisites: It’s helpful to have knowledge using a torch. Description: Create this lovely 22k gold and sterling silver ring in this short three hour beginner class. Learn how to choose a ring size, texture metal, fuse sterling silver and gold together, soldering and applying a black patina. Additionally, Janet shares her tips and tricks from her 40+ years of metalsmithing.

•Basic soldering

Kit Includes:

Materials: 3” 22k gold round wire (22gauge), 20 gauge argentium sheet (3/8” x 3”), medium argentium solder, yellow flux, solder, pickle, torch fuel, paper towels, Dawn soap, liver of sulfur, and printed handout.

Students should bring the following tools:

Round nose pliers, flat file, needle nose pliers, and flush cutters.

Instructor will provide the following tools for use in class:

Calipers, calculator, solder stations, solder picks, T pins, copper tongs, tweezers, flux brushes, lighters, water bowl, table protection, kiln bricks, charcoal blocks, coarse texture wheel, pumice wheels, blue 3M buffs, green 3M buffs, brass brushes, torches, container for flux, steel brushes, flex shafts, keys, flex shaft hangers, pickle pot, Joyce Chen scissors, ring bending pliers, ring sizers, cup warmers, fine tweezers, ring mandrels, bench blocks, plastic mallets, bowl for liver of sulfur, extension cords, extra supplies and tools for late registrants to use during class.
